Dr. Rabin worked in the oil industry in beautiful Bartlesville, OK for a few years, then moved out to the Bay Area 20 years ago to work for Dionex, an HPLC manufacturer specializing in ion chromatography
He then moved over to ALZA, working there for 13 years, including the acquisition years by Johnson and Johnson, and the subsequent closing of the company by JNJ.
Steve worked on pieces of most of ALZA's drug delivery products during the time, including oral, transdermal and implantable drug/device combination products. Spent the last five years at ALZA as the lead scientist on an iontophoretic drug/device product for pain relief, launching the product in Europe. The rights to further develop the product for the US market were very recently picked up by Incline Therapeutics of Redwood City. Working on combination products, Dr. Rabin found that there are some real advantages from a patient perspective for these type of products, and some real problems from development and regulatory perspectives.
Currently, Steve is the principal at SBR Consulting, helping companies with their combination product development---contracting currently for Proteus Biomedical, a device/drug company in Redwood Shores.
