Speakers: Ian Edvalson: Partner, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati Corporation

Ian Edvalson is a partner in Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati's Palo Alto and San Diego offices. He assists private and public companies in creating and implementing strategies to optimize their technology and other assets, advising them on a variety of legal and business issues. Ian represents clients in domestic and international transactions involving intellectual property or product rights, such as collaboration, development, manufacture, supply and distribution agreements, technology acquisitions, university licenses, and the formation of joint ventures and other types of strategic alliances.
Ian has a wide variety of business and legal experience covering a full range of issues and transactions
facing technology companies, particularly in the biopharmaceutical and life sciences industries. He works closely with his clients in setting strategic direction and structuring and negotiating mission-critical business arrangements. Prior to rejoining the firm in 2002, Ian was senior vice president of corporate and business development at Third Wave Technologies, Inc., where he was responsible for implementing and managing its product development and licensing strategies for both research and clinical markets. Additionally, he played a significant role in Third Wave's financing strategy (including its February 2001 IPO) and developing and maintaining significant customer and collaborator relationships. Because of Ian's company-based experience, he is particularly attuned to issues faced by emerging company clients.

Rekha Hemrajani: Vice President of Business Development at Exelixis
Rekha Hemrajani has had a sixteen year career focused on the health care and biotech industries. She is currently Vice President of Business Development at Exelixis. In her last six years at Exelixis, she has been involved in raising over $800 million in capital through business development and other non-dilutive transactions. Prior to Exelixis, she spent several years in investment banking (at Credit Suisse First Boston and at Lehman Brothers) helping large, small and mid-sized companies in the biopharmaceutical and healthcare industries raise capital in the public and private markets, as well as with mergers and acquisitions. During her almost six year tenure in investment banking, she was involved in raising over $8 billion in debt and equity capital as well as over $2 billion in M&A transactions. Prior to her career in investment banking, she has worked for pharmaceutical and biotech companies in the areas of business development and marketing both in the US and in India.
Rekha is a member of the Board of Directors of Hemmo Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. in Mumbai, India and is a member of the Finance & Operations Committee at JVS, a non-profit organization in San Francisco that helps people with barriers to employment build the skills needed to succeed in today's workplace. Rekha has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Mike Brasseur: VP, Business Solutions, Head of the Business Development practice, Life Science & Growth at M-Squared Consulting

Mike Brasseur is a biopharmaceutical executive with more than 25 years of industry experience in the development of pharmaceuticals, clinical diagnostics, innovative tools and devices. Author of numerous publications and holder of several patents, he has distinguished himself throughout his professional career by launching and growing life sciences companies through the application of best business practices. His background includes senior technical and management roles with leading companies such as Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Tularik (now Amgen), Applied Biosystems, Caliper Life Sciences, as well as the FDA.

Mike is known for building business through developing and executing revenue generating agreements and partnerships, and managing the many disciplines needed to successfully bring products to market. An expert in creating successful alliances, he excels at aligning all facets of deals and partnerships across the many functions involved such as clinical, regulatory, business development, commercial, marketing, manufacturing, finance and legal.
