John Marino brings more than 17 years of pharmaceutical sales and marketing experience from Pfizer and Warner-Lambert to the Actelion Management Team. Following a stint in Turkey as a US Army Officer, John started as a pharmaceutical sales representative in northeast Philadelphia. Within the industry, he has worked in numerous positions, including market research analyst, product manager, district sales manager, regional marketing director, and Worldwide Team Leader. He has worked in all Regions of the world, including Asia, Latin America, and Europe, and in numerous therapeutic categories including women’s health care, neurology, and cardiovascular medicine. His most recent assignment at Pfizer was managing their $5B European cardiovascular franchise, which included the flagship product LIPITOR®. John has a BS from St. Lawrence University, an MA from the University of Oklahoma, and an MBA from Duke University.
Marking 5 years since the launch of TRACLEER (bosentan), Actelion Pharmaceuticals has become a rapidly growing, solidly profitable biopharmaceutical company. Its unique profile as a Swiss company, with a US headquarters based in the Bay Area, makes it a bit unusual among the typical biotech enterprises located here. Now with the recently closed acquisition of CoTherix, Actelion has consolidated a strong leadership position in the specialty pulmonary hypertension market, combining two complimentary therapies, a leading drug in this class and an innovative device delivery system.
