Michael Paris is a Principal Clinical Engineer in the Clinical Engineering Department at St. Jude Medical. This is a group that is a bridge between the Physician and the Engineering team. They do Voice of Costumer and Algorithm development).

Michael went to Tulane University for BME and received my BSE in 1995 and MSE in 1996. Right out of college, he came to work for Ventritex which is now a part St Jude Medical. He has had various jobs at SJM during his 10-year tenure, including Technical Services representative, Clinical Project Lead on SJM’s first Heart Failure device,
and on numerous projects for Advanced Technology which look at next generation algorithms and tools.

As a clinical team leader for heart failure based projects, he provides clinical representation on tachycardia-based and heart failure-based products to identify themes and new features with Marketing and Research. Michael has helped ensure goals of clinicians and patients are met by interacting directly with the clinicians themselves in their work environments, on-site and at trade meetings. He has helped conceptualize and transform research ideas and features into a clinician-based language, understandable to the customers.

Michael will focus on the History of the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM), where we are today and where we might be heading. He will briefly highlight how this industry is exciting in that they need cross-functional teams to put these devices together, from Hardware, Software, Firmware Engineers to Materials and Biomedical Engineers all working together.
