Dr. Bilal Shafi has undergraduate and graduate degrees in Biomedical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and completed medical school at Thomas Jefferson University. Prior to medical school, he worked for a biotech consulting company and a startup developing applications for microfluidics. Dr. Shafi is in the midst of his surgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania. Currently, he is here for 2 years developing medical devices as apart of the Biodesign Surgical Innovation Program.
Dr. Bilal Shafi’s talk will focus on how to approach a clinical problem from the perspective of both a physician and an engineer. He will also touch on the Biodesign process and how to successfully bring a useful product back to the clinic and identify some key components to addressing both physican and patient needs.
